Our Pastor: Roland England

Roland was raised on farms in Prince George's County, MD and Shenandoah County, VA. After High School, he worked on his parents' farm, in an apple cannery and turkey hatchery; at Long's Hatchery, he listened to Rev. Lloyd Gochenour's radio broadcast and adopted his motto, "Keep on keeping on." Roland served in the US Army as a Military Policeman, then was a telephone cable splicer for the Edinburg company now known as Shentel. At 28, he entered college on the G.I. Bill. He is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg and Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond.

He and the former Nancy Gochenour celebrated their 50th Anniversary  Decemember 31, 2016. Nancy was raised by her grandparents on their farm near Strasburg, VA. They have three sons, James, Michael and Nathan. Nancy was an LPN and nursing secretery at Inova-Loudoun Hospital for 25 years and retired in June, 2015.

Before becoming our founding pastor, Roland served UCC congregations in Lovettsville and Winchester, VA, and Boonsboro, MD. He was ordained a UCC minister in Emmanuel Church at Fishers Hill, south of Strasburg; he never forgets his roots in his home church and church of his mother and grandmother.

Paul Racey from Fishers Hill was Roland's Sunday school teacher in 7th-8th grade [Taken 2011]

Paul joined his beloved wife, Dolly, in 2016 as part of the Heavenly Chior around the throne of God

Roland is an outdoorsman, environmentalist and all-around student of God's wonderous creation; gardening, planting native shrubs and trees, fishing and hunting are among his many interests. He believes science and the Bible complement each other. In another way of enjoying God's beautiful world, he designs and builds stained glass windows, including many in St. Paul's Church and Mullen Hall.

Because of being involved in starting a new congregation with minimal financial support available, Roland has worked a number of years as an armed security guard on government contracts.

Roland adds books here from time to time which he finds helpful in living and sharing his faith in Jesus Christ. Here is also a link to a great Christian bookstore. Link to Hearts And Minds Bookstore

Jesus is the Victorious King

Who o'er all His foes has conquered;

Jesus, soon the world will fall

At His feet, by love o'erpowered;

Jesus leads us with His might

From the darkness to radiant light.

Pastor Johann Christoph Blumhardt, 1805-1880
